The amazing seabirds of Greenland
Seabirds are found everywhere along the shores of Greenland, from the gulls in harbours to the dramatic nesting cliffs and the huge little auk colonies, which only few people have visited. Throughout history, people in Greenland have had a close relationship with seabirds, which have been a resource that could make the difference between life and death. This book gives the first overview of the biology of Greenland’s seabirds, based on the most recent research.
The chapters in the book describe which seabirds occur in Greenland, how they are adapted to the Arctic environment and life on the open ocean, as well as how people have exploited seabirds through time. In addition, the book includes portraits of the most important seabird species, and personal stories from some of the places where the birds breed.
The publication is funded by the Aage V. Jensen Fonde, with profits from the sale of the book going to the Greenlandic environmental NGO, Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat.
